Snowed in

Since our last post, we got snowed in for a couple of days. Literally, could not leave the property due to heavy snowfall and high winds.  Yesterday in the paper, there was an article that noted the recorded amounts of snow across the island for the month of February were 222.8cm or 7.30 feet. That is one heck of a lot of snow in one month. (too much)  Not to worry, we made it through and of course, all the dogs enjoyed it to varying degrees.

Once the storms stopped, the sun came out and we got outside as much as we could.

The interesting thing is, that because of the winds, there are places in the yard that have little snow, as in the picture above.  Other places have high ridges of snow.  The wind also blew small branches and clusters of needles off the trees along side the house. That is what you can see all over the ground. (It's not something that needs to be picked up, although that is what it looks like.)

The path to the barn is now knee-deep in most places. Luckily, the weather has been very cold recently so I've been able to walk on top of the snowbanks with only occasional footsteps breaking through.

Our last post generated a couple of questions as to what the "new" barn cat's name is.  His name is Stripe. His new best friend in the barn is CC (chicken cat). CC is named that because she sleeps in the stall with the chickens.  Stripe is a lap cat and is quite happy to sit my lap if I have time to sit on an old milk crate and fuss him up a little after he has a drink of milk.

At our place, there is always room for those that need a place to be.

  2. You have a safe port in a storm....even a snow storm!

Most of the posts today seem to be about snow. There's so much about this year, I suppose it's because it's a bit late.

  3. We have a ridiculous amount of snow too, plus the 4-8 inches that is falling right now. :(
Love the pics of the dogs having fun!

  4. That is so wonderful that you take in those that need a warm and safe place. Does chicken cat really live in peace with the chickens? Is that the first cat in the world who is able to do that? Very sweet!

  5. I remember the year I visited my brother in Colorado and there was a blizzard one day and we couldn't go anywhere. Just one day and I thought I would lose my mind. It wasn't that it was horrible being with him and his family - just the thought that even if I wanted to, I couldn't go anywhere, kinda drove me nuts. I suppose you are used to that kind of thing though.

Love the cat names - especially CC! Chicken cat is special to sleep with the chickens instead of chasing them!

Stripe seems like a sweet cat - so cuddly!
